Additives for slurry and foder

Because the agriculture is constantly facing with new requirements for reducing their impact on the environment, some producers have resorted to using commercially available additives for manure and/or feed in an effort to minimise odour and other air emissions from livestock buildings.

One thing that has proven to be very effective in reducing ammonia emission and odour is adding sulphuric acid to the manure either in a plant or in the slurry gutters.

Additives for animal feed are marketed as being effective against odours and having additional benefits such as improving the nutrient quality of the manure, improved animal performance, etc. The composition of these additives ranges from chemicals, enzymes to micro-organisms. However, many of these additives have proven to be ineffective.
